Private by design
Read-aloud tools usually ship your text to a server. Readalix doesn’t have one. Local voices are synthesized in the extension itself, on your hardware.

We have no server and no account system. We do not collect, receive or store your personal data. There is no analytics, no tracking, no advertising, and nothing is ever sold or shared.
What the extension stores, and where
- Synced across your browsers (Chrome sync storage): your settings: chosen voice, language, reading speed, highlight colours, keyboard shortcut, toolbar layout, hidden voices and languages, per-site language, interface language, and which hints you dismissed.
- On this device only: your optional Gemini or OpenAI API key, downloaded voice models, the cache of already-synthesized audio, the daily free-usage counter, and your paid/unpaid flag.
All of it lives in your browser. Uninstalling the extension removes it. The audio cache can be inspected and cleared at any time in Settings → Manage cache.
What leaves your device
- Browser voices, Piper and Kokoro: nothing. The speech is generated on your own machine; the text never leaves the browser.
- Microsoft, Gemini and OpenAI voices: only the sentence currently being spoken is sent to that provider, so it can be turned into audio. It is handled under that provider’s own privacy policy. Nothing is sent to us.
- Your API keys: sent only to the provider they belong to (Google or OpenAI), directly from your browser. They are stored on your device, never synced, and never transmitted to us.
- Voice downloads: downloading a Piper or Kokoro voice fetches the model file from Hugging Face, which sees the request the way any file download does.
Payments
Premium is sold through ExtensionPay, which uses Stripe. Your email address and payment details are handled by them; we never see or store card data. The extension only asks them whether the current installation is paid.
Children
The extension is not directed at children under 13 and collects no data from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the effective date above changes with it.
